Being a resident of Edgewater myself, I have heard and even been awakened multiple times at night. So I understand.
The office has received multiple complaints. We even received angry calls from neighboring buildings, asking us what we are doing and to knock it off! But, it’s nothing from PT or any other building for that matter.
The horn and beeping we hear is from the CTA overnight work being done on the Red Line tracks, part of the Purple Line improvement project.
For safety reasons, in the evening hours they utilize these sounds to notify all workers on the tracks when a train is approaching. The beeping or pinging noise is actually a warning a train is on approach and the air horn is the warning for employees to get off the tracks.
We contacted the Alderman’s office for more information, and they advised there is approximately 3 weeks left of work that needs to be done.
So, the noise will continue unfortunately…but at least we now know it is for the safety of workers making these repairs, and will only be continuing for a few more weeks.
