As well, at the corner of Balmoral and Sheridan near the bus stop.
We want to bring everyone’s attention to conditions at the site of the Wing Hoe building fire, 5356 North Sheridan. In particular, right along the sidewalk of Balmoral and near the corner of Balmoral and Sheridan.
Despite glass hanging loosely and precariously from the 2nd floor windows, those windows have not been boarded up, and barricades have not been placed to block off the sidewalk. It is very likely that unsafe conditions prevented the additional board up, however, they should be at least blocking off the sidewalk. If you have walked along here, you can see broken glass along the north side of the building along Balmoral. Some from the fire, BUT, some continues to fall as we speak.
This includes glass in many locations along the sidewalk and parkway. BE EXTREMELY careful if you walk on this sidewalk until this situation is addressed and resolved.
We’ve been in touch with our friends at ASCO and the 48th Ward Aldermanic office. We also put in a very detailed complaint with 311. The 48th Ward team did get back to us and said they’ve been in contact with the Owner/developer and the Department of Buildings, but they’ve only been able to have a light clean up done around the building and perimeter. We are waiting to hear back from a 311 supervisor.
But, in the interim, imminently hazardous conditions are present. It’s obvious, and dangerous. Just the right bounce from a piece of glass or the right wind conditions, could result in injury or worse to pedestrians.
The more these folks hear from the community, the more likely we may see some action on this matter.
We appreciate your time and attention to this serious situation. If you have to travel around this location, be aware and use extreme caution.
