Most recently, Board Secretary Dave Nicosia stepped down as Park Tower’s representative to ASCO, after 5 years of service.
ASCO, the Association of Sheridan Road Condo/Co-op Owners was founded in the 1970s to fight discrimination against condo/co-op owners in the levying of property taxes. It succeeded and for close to 40 years has continued to influence city ordinances and state legislation. Its members include 32 condo/co-op associations between 5200 and 6400 North on Sheridan Road with over 6,456 units.
The ASCO Rep for member buildings attends their meetings and reports back to the Board on items and issues of interest to the building and neighborhood. For example, ASCO was pivotal in the recent fight against the Illinois State Fire Marshal’s efforts to pass rules requiring fire sprinkler retrofits. Coordinating with ASCO and other member buildings helped Park Tower and its neighbors defeat this costly, invasive and potentially destructive unnecessary measure.

We also continue to seek help on most other Association Committees.
ORIGINAL POST:
We are still looking for volunteer owners and residents to get involved!
The Board at condo associations such as Park Tower may create and appoint persons to a “commission”. These are generally groups of owners that act as a task force or advisory body to do research and gather information to make recommendations about association business, activities and improvements. At Park Tower, they are referred to as our “committees”.
Committees may not act on behalf of the association, spend money or bind the Board to any actions. They simply develop recommendations to be submitted to the board and its officers. While not binding, these recommendations and the information gathered by the committees are a critically important part of the process in conducting business at Park Tower. Since the recommendations are being made by owners (and in some cases other residents) other than Board Members, it helps insure that owners voices are being heard and considered when decisions are being made that effect the building and its finances.
Opportunities are available now for owners and residents to get more directly involved and have their voice and abilities put to use to serve the Association and be a part of the process of business getting done and improvements being made.
