In the interim, I received some tips from Unit Owner Jim Jardine that might help you out now:
“Here are two tips I would like to share…
1. (Just FYI) Any Best Buy store will take all electronic devices for recycling. Just bring them to the Customer Service Desk.
2. Our TiVo boxes can be expanded if you need more capacity. The simplest way is to (buy a DVR expander and) plug it in to the back of the TiVo with a USB or eSATA cable. If they didn’t put (a cable) in the box you can buy one on Amazon, Radio Shack or Best Buy cheaply. Below are two external DVR (TiVo) hard drives and links to Amazon with a 1TB and a 500GB. There are instruction in the TiVo to set up DVR (TiVo) external storage drives. In the TiVo Menu, go to Settings, then choose Remote, CableCARD, & Devices, and choose External Storage. There you’ll get on screen instructions that are simple to follow.
a. TB High-capacity DVR expander – Add extra hours of HD storage to your DVR. Connect the drive to your compatible USB or eSATA DVR to instantly create more storage for your TV shows, sporting events, and movies.
Western Digital My Book AV DVR Expander 1 TB USB 2.0/eSATA External Hard Drive (up to 600 hours of SDTV; up to 120 hours of HDTV) $109.99
1 TB Western Digital Book Expander
500GB maximum storage capacity (up to 300 hours of SDTV; up to 60 hours of HDTV)
Western Digital My DVR Expander 500 GB eSATA External Hard Drive $80.20
3. You can also get tips on how to expand capacity from TIVO (with some specific instructions on how to set up your DVR expander).
How To Increase TIVO Capacity”
As a part of PTCA’s bulk cable contract with RCN, each unit is entitled to a TIVO ‘Quad’ DVR. This allows you to record up to for TV programs at once, while viewing other shows you have recorded.
On Tuesday Sept. 29th, RCN will hold TIVO classes in the Party Room at 4pm, 5pm and 6pm. A rep will introduce any interested residents to the TIVO Quad, which is available as a part of the bulk contract, and demonstrate how to operate it. This includes programming and recording programs and other features that can help residents make the most of their cable services.
As always, if you can not attend the service nights, you can call RCN on the local help line at 1-312-955-2500, or 1-800-RING-RCN.
Also, TIVO demonstrations run 24/7 on RCN channel 997.
At any time you have any questions, you can also contact the office.
