We’re pleased to announce that due to their popularity last year, Rita Allison has agreed to offer the Ukrainian Egg Decoration workshops again in March 2024. By way of introduction, here is the story Rita told that originally piqued our interest.
Years ago, a young woman came into my gift shop to ask if I would be interested in holding Ukrainian Egg decorating workshops in the store. Her Ukrainian grandmother had taught her and she wanted to pass along her expertise. That was 40 years ago and I was enamored of the whole process as well as the finished products. I have been making them ever since those workshops. I try as much as possible to gather with friends to do them because that is a really big part of the tradition in Ukraine. The workshops I have led have included pre-teens as well as seniors, in schools and senior centers. At first many people say “ oh I could never do that” and it gives me pleasure to help them along on their artistic journey. That is the basic goal of these workshops—to bring out the artistic ability of each participant—and, hopefully, to produce some beautiful eggs!
