The true story of Phiona Mutesi, a 10-year old child living on the streets of Kampala, Uganda. She sells vegetables to support her family so going to school is not an option, but Phiona’s life takes a dramatic turn when she is introduced to the game of chess. The film is about more than chess. It’s a coming-of-age story demonstrating the power of dreams no matter what your age. It also reminds us that there are gifted and talented people around the world. The 2nd Floor Party Room opens at 4:30 pm with the serving of fresh popcorn. We then take pizza orders and douse the lights at 5:00 pm, break halfway through for pizza and soda, then finish by 7:30 pm. Free, of course, for Park Tower residents and their families.
Our leadership team could use a little volunteer help for this event. It’s an easy “ask,” just one or two folks who can arrive at 4:00 pm and/or stay around for 15 minutes afterward to clean up. Kindly reply using the email address just below. And Thanks!
The Social Commission thanks all who joined us for our Easter Egg Hunt & Brunch on April 8th. We had a terrific turn-out of 89 guests including 34 enthusiastic children hunting for eggs and posing with our Easter Bunny. We’re happy to announce that our Annual Independence Day Picnic will be on July 4th this year. As in the past, the picnic will be free for Park Tower residents who sign up, open to their guests for a fee, AND require a huge amount of volunteer labor. Stay tuned!
