It was brought to my attention that owners are receiving a mailing from “Illinois Deed Provider”, offering to get you a copy of your deed if you send them $89.50 or your credit card information. We suggest you save your money! While it does not appear this is a scam – though we have not heard from anyone who has taken them up on their offer – some would say this is a waste of money, even if it’s legit.
I asked the building’s attorney, Dave Bendoff, to take a look at this. He said:
“Personally, I would not use this service. Any owner can go to the County Building and get these documents themselves for a fraction of the cost, should they need a copy.”
His comment raises an additional point – “should you need a copy”. It is possible you will never need your deed. So why pay this money and/or run the risk of releasing your credit card information to have it floating around with people you don’t know in Northbrook. 🙂
