There will be open drain lines below, so workers will be facing whatever is coming down the line. Which as you can probably imagine, could be very unpleasant if you flush your toilet. Perhaps, just as important, if a lot of water is coming down the line suddenly and unexpectedly while they are working, it could result in damages to the surroundings.
Health Club Members – an extensive amount of work is being done at the 2nd Floor level. The contractor will do their best to keep the facilities accessible, but elevator doors may be blocked at times. And going to and from could get interesting, with the ceiling being removed in many locations. You may have to take the stairs from the lobby or 3rd floor from time to time, and you may be routed around ongoing work when needed.
We regret any inconvenience this work may cause, and appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding.
Preparations are underway to begin major plumbing work in the ceiling of the Lobby, Party Room and Weight Room. On Monday June 22nd, workers will begin erecting an expansive protective canopy in the lobby. This will create a platform from which workers can begin removing the ceiling and prepping materials to conduct the work.
Embedded in the ceiling are several hundred feet of main drain lines for the entire tower, including hot and cold water lines and valves serving floors 3 through 29. Most are original to the construction of the building. Plans and a contract to replace this plumbing were approved by the PTCA Board at the June 1st Board Meeting. Once underway the contractor expects work to take approximately 4 months from start to finish. Ultimately, it is our goal to finish in time to have them completely out of the lobby by the end of October, and well before the 2015 Holiday Season.
From time to time there will be water shut downs to accommodate this work. To minimize shut downs, plans are in place to install as much of the new network of lines and fixtures, and only shutdown when connections are needed. Management will issue notices with as much advance warning as possible – Please watch for these notices.
When hot water lines are shut down, sediment from the pipes can get into your branch-lines and decrease your water pressure. If this occurs your line may need to be back flushed. If this happens, contact the office during business hours 773-769-3250, or the front desk after hours 773-769-3083, and we will schedule this service.
We apologize in advance for any inconvenience, and appreciate your patience and understanding while we complete this very important plumbing project. Please do not hesitate to contact the office with any questions or concerns.
