The team completing a sweeping upgrade of our security camera and key fob network reported some challenges this week, as we have been trying to wrap the project up.
First, and perhaps most obvious is the small surprise we’ve all noticed in the passenger elevators. Where the old protective housings for the cameras were located, we’ve been left with some holes and shadows in the panels. We are identifying possible solutions to these unexpected conditions.
Also, the old fob network has been a ‘beast’ to dismantle. Workers have had to spend several more days than expected dismantling the old hardware, which was a bit more of a labyrinth of wiring and devices than was expected. Below, a worker is tying in new wiring and hardware:
This means they have been able to bring each fob station online in phases, as they are tied in to the new server and software. Ironically, that has resulted in less inconvenience for residents whose fobs – for a variety of reasons – may have inadvertently been deprogrammed as a part of the process. Each fob swipe station, such as below in the lobby, has been brought online independently from the others:
If you experience any difficulty with your fob, contact the office right away and we will troubleshoot. Either via e-mail at parktowercondo@dkcondo.com, or by phone at 773-769-3250.
In the coming week, Monday October 9th through Thursday October 12th, between 8am and 5pm, we expect workers to be replacing cameras in the each of the elevators. Also, the fob network software and panels will be upgraded.
Workers from Otis Elevator and CBS Security Company will begin removing the existing surveillance cameras and replacing them with new ones in the passenger and the mall elevators. Between Monday October 9th and Thursday October 12th each elevator will be taken out of service one at a time to complete the work.
Other workers with CBS will bring our new security key fob network online.
What residents will expect to see onsite?
Multiple workers from both companies will be in and on top of the elevator cars. Also, at various entrances and exits throughout the building workers will be servicing and testing the fob readers.
As a result of this work, a complete audit of our fob system was completed. Once the fob data is uploaded for the new network, we expect some key fobs may have inadvertently been removed or deprogrammed from the database. Let us know right away if this happens to you – and ideally, if it is during office hours, please stop by the office so we can re-enter and program your fob.
We realize interruptions and delays may occur while all this work is conducted. So we ask that residents allow extra time when traveling in and out of the building. We greatly appreciate everyone’s patience and apologize in advance for any disruption or inconvenience this causes while we complete this improvement project.
