NOTICE OF RCN SURCHARGE INCREASE

$1.70 per unit per month

Effective April 1^st, 2020

Dear Owner,

In February 2020 the Association received notice of an increase to the video surcharges incorporated in the bulk cable contract with RCN Chicago. Specifically the increase is due to the cost of the new “Marquee Channel”, which is a channel that will show the Cubs games. It is incorporated in the Signature tier of channels which is a part of our contract and cannot be selectively removed by the Association or individual customers.

This increase was effective with the bulk cable contract billing for March 2020. However, due to the timing of RCN’s notice, the Board was unable to consider or discuss this until their March 9^th, 2020 Board Meeting. Because the Cable and Internet fees are a fixed expense, and the increase is charged on a per unit basis, and because the goal of the Association is to operate with a reasonable balance between income and expenses, it was the consensus of the Board to increase the monthly fee to compensate for the difference. However, there will not be a retroactive charge for March – the increase will be effective April 1^st. The expense for March will be absorbed by the regular assessments.

The Association does not take this unexpected increase lightly and appreciates the impact it has on all Owners. For over a decade such increases have either been negligible or timed with the passage of each annual budget. We realize the timing of this increase is awkward, and we appreciate and thank Owners for their understanding of this change.
