The final concrete pour was completed, and the bulk of the driveway and surrounding sidewalk is now curing. Some preliminary strength testing was done to confirm the concrete is setting properly. The initial results are very promising, and our expectation is the driveway will be released for traffic by next Friday, December 19th. We have a meeting with the contractor and project engineers on Tuesday the 16th, after which we expect to have a definitive time when we can open back up.
Next week, they will also begin clean up, joint sealants on the concrete and sealing of the terrazzo. The remainder of the railings on the phase 2 side are expected to be installed. We anticipated to be completed this week, but the contractor was not satisfied with the paint finish on the radius sections near the new planter and at the north side of the plaza by the driveway with 5445. We now expect this to be done by the end of business Wednesday December 17th.
Along the vertical portion of the plaza wall, facing Sheridan Road, we still have no word on when ComEd will begin their repairs to the vault. We gave the contractor the go ahead to begin the panel work on the North side, and to at least prep the panels for the southern portion. So they are scheduling those to be manufactured.
Once the work reaches major completion, you can expect to see workers from time to time, as we will have “punch-list” items for them to address.
