For some time prior, the PT Health Club Commission was devising a plan to replace the long defunct Life
Fitness Multi Gym. After considering results of a survey of members, and pretty extensive research on the part of management and several members of the Commission, they identified a Matrix Multi Gym
that would fit the space. In addition, based on member feedback and requests, they suggested
ancillary equipment including replacement of the dumbbell rack, a new kettlebell set and rack, and decline bench.
We are still waiting for delivery of the decline bench, but everything else has been installed. We are told to expect delivery and installation of the bench on Monday July 15th.
Monique Fouant, the Board Liaison and acting chair of the Commission, had this to report about the new Multi Gym and the placement of the equipment:
“The selection of the new equipment was based on the results of the survey conducted in December among Health Club members. Ideally, we would have liked to replace the broken multi-gym with an identical one but it was no longer in production. The survey asked members to indicate which exercise they used on the multi-press and to make additional comments. The percent of exercise usage was as follows: lateral pull down 89%, low row 63%, bench press 54%, pectoral fly 52%, incline press 51%, triceps pushdown 49%, leg extension 48%, shoulder press 47%, arm curl 43%, leg curl 42%, and abdominal 31%. Members also requested kettlebells, one dumb bell rack which would hold all the dumb bell weights and a new decline bench. Based on these results, several committee members did extensive research and looked at three equipment options.
Option 1 replace with new multi-gym
Option 2: replace with two pieces: dual lateral pulldown and a multi-press
Option 3: replace with two pieces: lateral pulldown and a seated row
In April, we met with a representative from The Fitness Connection who made extensive laser precise measurements of the weight room and provided us with a layout of the equipment for each of the three options. After much deliberation, the team decided on Option 1. The new multi-gym gave more varied strength training options than the other two options. Because of the size of the multi-gym, it was moved to the back of the room to avoid blocking the entrance and the middle section. The Health Club Commission hopes you enjoy the new additions.”
We do need to report that we’ve had some problems with one of the panels on the multi-gym, but a replacement part is being ordered. It is still safe to use, but we will get the new panel installed as soon as the shipment arrives.
