Hello Lakefront Partners,
A contractor for the Park District (SmithGroup / Women and Drones) will be capturing drone footage of the Chicago shoreline as a first step in evaluating erosion caused by this year’s high lake levels. Drones will be flown along the Chicago’s shoreline starting the morning of Tuesday,August 20th, and continuing intermittently through mid- September.
The Chicago Park District is working with the City of Chicago, the Army Corps of Engineers, and locally elected officials to develop a shoreline study for the entire 18-mile stretch of Chicago’s lakefront. The study will provide an assessment of the condition lakefront and existing shoreline protection; identify near-term and long-term sustainable strategies to address erosion and storm damage; and identify partnerships and resources to implement long-term, sustainable improvements to protect our lakefront.
The Park District will be issuing a press release on Monday 8/19/19 to notify the public about this work. In addition, and in advance of the press release, the Park District has notified OEMC, local police districts, and lakefront Alderpersons about our work. We will be providing weekly updates of our proposed itinerary to each of these groups, and would be happy to include you in the updates as well. Please feel free to reach out with any questions.
Should we need to extend our schedule for any reason, prolonging drone activity in your ward, we will alert you on an individual basis. Please feel free to reach out with any questions.
Best,
Sarah
