In light of recent misuse of the luggage carts which resulted in damage requiring repairs, we wanted to share some guidelines and reminders to consider when you check them out.
The luggage carts are stored next to the Security office, in the back of the building adjacent to the dock exit. They are chained to keep them secure. When you check them out, the front desk staff will give you a key to unlock the chain. Typical acceptable uses include for pushing luggage and groceries. But they are not intended for heavier duty use. Thus, consistent with the PTCA Rules and Regulations Luggage Carts may not be used for:
And there is a sign right there, to let you know:
For heavier duty items, a dolly and flatbed are available from security. These may be used for moves, furniture and construction efforts. Using these too requires an Owner or resident to check in and sign out at the lobby front desk and they will be retrieved by the staff. Also, there are smaller flatbeds available in the package room for boxes and larger deliveries.
No carts should be overloaded, including the dolly and flatbed. If you cannot comfortably push the cart due to it’s weight, then you have overloaded it. If you’ve stacked the cart so high with belongings, that you cannot see straight ahead of you as you push the cart, then you have overloaded it.
There is a time limit. All carts should be returned within an hour unless an extension is granted. This is to help insure reasonable availability to anyone who wants to use a cart. If you are in the middle of a move though, and appropriately using a flatbed, you can check in periodically to make sure no one else is waiting for it.
Finally, under no circumstances should any of the carts be removed from the building property. Believe it or not, we’ve had residents moving to or from nearby buildings, and they thought this was ok. It’s not. These carts are meant for use on Park Tower property only.
Need to use a cart? Want to confirm in advance that one is available? Just call ahead. The lobby front desk can be reached at 773-769-3083.
