FIRST – we greatly appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while the facility has been closed. The collective cautionary position Park Tower has been in, including surviving through the lock-down, but most importantly modifying habits to improve personal hygiene and integrate social distancing into our everyday routine, and now face coverings, are things we will need to continue even as the world tries to get back to living. Face coverings are the new seat belt, as one might say.
The reality is, we need to be prepared for a potentially very bumpy ride. While the general outlook here in Illinois has improved, cases of COVID-19 did increase last week. (COVID-19 Cases In Illinois) The outlook elsewhere is in some cases as dire as it has been since the pandemic spread to the US. So the key thing to keep in mind is to be prepared should we have to back pedal.
Unfortunately, the policies in place with the State and City’s Phase III reopening guidance would not allow for us to open the facility. And even now in Phase IV, the guidance for safely reopening presents serious challenges and limitations. Before the final guidance was released last week our team drafted a plan, and now changes are being made to make it as reasonably consistent as possible with the finer points of the governments policies for reopening.
The plan was presented to the Health Club Commission, and once we have their formal blessing our team will begin setting the space up for use. As of right now, our goal is to open Monday July 6th. The details are being hammered out and signage will be posted consistent with those details to help instruct and guide members.
Some of the details being worked out:
A couple things we know for certain, the jacuzzi and the locker room saunas will not be open for use. The present guidance prohibits their use at this time. Also, individual fobs will no longer access the spaces – fobs for each space will be available at the lobby front desk for check out. Any capacity limitations will be enforced by the number of fobs that are checked out.
By Thursday July 3rd, we expect to release formal plans to our residents and members, and with luck will be gearing up to open the space for use in the coming week.
For all members in good standing throughout the entire closure, memberships will be extended by 112 days. For members whose membership expired while the Health Club was closed, it will be renewed by the requisite number of days.
