Last autumn city workers laid out 2 new blacktop areas in the park close to Foster Beach. One is obviously a new basketball court (still waiting for its baskets as of this writing) but the other remained a mystery. On April 30 the mystery was revealed – our new Thrive 450 Adult (13+) Outdoor Gym on our Lakefront.
The easiest access to the gym is the take the Berwyn LSD Underpass, cross the bike path, walk toward the lake and it’s right there.
The gym has 4 structures that divide into several workout stations. This can all be had with the lake, the park, the sky and the beach as backdrops at sunrise, at sunset and in between.
Workouts for total body fitness, obstacle race training, grip strength training and more can be achieved with up to ten beginner, intermediate, and advanced users at a time.
How to use some of the stations are obvious if you’re a senior, for example, moving circles on a track for arm exercise, step-ups with handrails and seated squats with or without arm support. Other stations are obvious if you’re a teenager, for example, Swedish ladder and Ball Slam Station.
All are explained on instructional signs that are part of the set-up. The signs include access to instructional videos via QR codes and a website, https://www.gametime.com/uploads/media/THRIVE450Workouts.pdf .
Expect the gym to be busy as warm weather increases and the pandemic fades into the background.
