It was reported to us by Otis Elevator, car #4 is out of service and a relatively major repair is needed. Parts were ordered and most have since arrived, so repair work can at least get underway.
For residents:
Elevators 1&2 serve floors 2-23
Elevators 3&4 serve floors 23-55
The “selector tape” on Car #4 malfunctioned – we are told, it actually snapped and separated somewhere between the 3rd and 23rd floor. This is a device which helps the elevator communicate with the software, so it knows where it is, where it is going and when to stop. It is unable to properly land on the floors it is called to. So the elevator had to be shut down.
It is the technician team’s goal to schedule and conduct the repair early next week. They expect 3 to 4 days would be needed and as it stands now, the car would be returned to service sometime Wednesday August 16th. Any number of variables could impact this, such as shipping of the remaining parts needed or if unknown conditions are found when they make repairs.
If anything occurs which alters these expectations, we will follow up with residents. Once we have more certain timing we will post an update. We know this outage will cause some delay and inconvenience, so we appreciate your patience while this work is completed.
