The “traveler cable” is pretty much what it sounds like. It is the cable that travels through the shaft, with the elevator cab. It contains power and communication lines which allow the cab to communicate with the servers that operate the elevator.
Even with the materials in hand, this is not a small job, hence the amount of time it’s taking to get the Car back into operation. Wiring work has to be completed in the cab, throughout the shaft and in the machine room.
If there are any changes in our expectations, we will update this post, but as of today they advised they expect the elevator will be back up and running Friday December 18th.
OTIS reportedly identified problems which have been addressed since the outage, however the car was still unresponsive.
The good news, THANKFULLY, it was reported to us today they believe they isolated the problem. A travelling cable in the elevator shaft appears to be malfunctioning. Parts will need to be ordered to make a permanent repair.
The bad news, it will take some time to get the part needed, and about 5 to 7 days to do the replacement. All together it could be out of service for 3 to 4 weeks.
They are presently attempting to make a temporary work-around repair, so they can put the car back in service. If that proves to be undoable, the car may remain out of service until the materials are in hand and the work is completed.
We apologize for the inconvenience this outage is causing, and appreciate everyone’s patience while a repair is being made.
