OTIS reported that the selector tape was repaired, and the floors were programmed back into the system. However, as they are testing the system and running the elevator, they have encountered some ancillary problems.
As of the drafting of this update they are in the building and continuing to work to diagnose and repair these problems, but we were told until they know what the issue is they can not give us a concrete ETA on returning the car to service.
IT IS POSSIBLE depending on what the continued problem actually is and due to the timing, if it can not be completed by the present crew and technician, that OTIS would have to schedule and bring in a specialist to address the outage early next week.
We will be monitoring the situation and send additional updates if we receive any news to report.
Otis Elevator reported that the ‘Selector Tape’ for Car #3 failed. The selector tape is a strip that runs through the entire shaft, and allows the software to identify which floor the elevator is on. They have not yet determined how this happened, but diagnosis will be part of the repair process. As the old parts involved are removed, including the selector tape itself, they should be able to tell us if is was a defect or something specifically occurred resulting in the condition.
The necessary parts and new selector tape were ordered, and most are in. Repair work is underway, and Otis has advised they expect the repair to be completed by the end of this week, Friday August 31.
We realize this outage is frustrating, and creates a huge inconvenience for residents. We appreciate your patience and understanding while the repair is completed.
