You still have time to provide comments and feedback to help make our Lake Michigan shoreline safer and more resilient to damage.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is currently conducting a study on Lake Michigan shoreline erosion and storm damage in your community. Their goal is to determine the best long-term solutions to protect important infrastructure along the shoreline, and we need your help. It is critical that the Army Corps hears directly from this community about your concerns and ideas.
The ongoing study is called the “Chicago Shoreline General Reevaluation – a Coastal Storm Risk Management study in the City of Chicago, Cook County Illinois.” The purpose of the study is to review shoreline erosion coastal storm damage, and to identify potential solutions. Information on the project can be found on the project webpage (available here).
The Public Comment period runs until Sunday, April 30, 2023, and you can email your comments during this period directly to chicagoshoreline@usace.army.mil.
You can also provide feedback by using a new crowdsourcing tool created by the Army Corps (available here).
The crowdsourcing tool has three comment types (Concerns, New Idea/Opportunity for Improvement, Questions). You can place points on the map at specific locations, mark the comment type, and describe the comment. Additionally, previous comments submitted can be seen, ‘liked’, and commented on in place of creating a new separate comment.
Below is some guidance for comments and examples that can be captured through the tool:
