RIDE SMART and RIDE SAFE
As the weather appears to be making a sudden and long overdue turn towards pleasant, and begins beckoning bike riders to hit the trails and streets, be reminded that safety is a priority.
For riders over the age of 12 years, you are not allowed to ride your bicycle on the sidewalk. If you are with a child who is riding on the sidewalk, you must walk your bike.
SUGGESTION, for locals, walk your bike to Ardmore or use Bike Paths on Kenmore Avenue riding North or Winthrop Avenue riding South. East and West Bound Streets do not have Bike Route signs on them, so always watch for cars. Park Tower bikers can easily access the bike paths through the park gate entrance adjacent to the Northeast corner of the building.
FOLLOW THE RULES OF THE ROAD – Bike riders on the street should obey all the same traffic signals and signs as other vehicles, such as stop lights and signs, and one way signs. ALWAYS ride with the direction of traffic. It’s safer, it’s courteous and it’s the law!
If you ride a bike on Sheridan Road or the Sidewalk, be prepared for your bike being temporarily confiscated and the rider receiving a ticket subject to a fine of $250.
Have an excellent biking season!
