The manager was informed by several unit owners of two individuals going door-to-door, claiming to be ComEd representatives. They immediately reached out to their Front Desk staff to determine how they entered the building and learned the individuals appear to have come through their main entrance during a busy period, following close behind several residents returning home. This allowed them to enter without a fob, and bypass the doorstaff who was apparently occupied with assisting others.
Chicago Police were contacted, and their staff tracked the individuals location. Their maintenance staff instructed them to leave and they were escorted off the property.
In addition to notifying the authorities, the manager contacted our front desk (at Park Tower) and other neighboring buildings to advise them of these suspicious individuals. In kind, we’ve advised our team staff about this situation, reminding them to be on guard and if they see something to say something.
One thing everyone can be assured of: ComEd will NEVER send representatives door-to-door for solicitations or to request resident information. So anyone knocking on your for such a purpose, is probably trespassing. Furthermore, if there was every going to be such an activity, a notice should go out well in advance.
And everyone can contribute to a more secure community. Always watch for “tail-gaters” – those are people unknow to you following close behind to gain entrance. They follow you in without fobbing, or being vetted by the staff. Stay vigilant. Report any such unfamiliar or suspicious persons to the our staff immediately, and avoid opening doors or granting access to anyone you do not recognize. Don’t let people unknown to you, follow you through secured doorways.
After hours, you can reach our front desk staff at 773-769-3083. During office hours, you can reach management at 773-769-3250. If you are unsure, always remember it’s better to be safe than sorry.
