As we understand it, nine people were seriously hurt and one of those is in critical condition following a major fire that broke out just a block down and around the corner at 5439-41 North Kenmore. It was reported that the fire started in a unit on the 4th floor and it spread quickly after the resident left the unit without shutting the door.
The fire commander on the scene reported that the heat inside the building around the fire was “so intense” that it melted a fire extinguisher storage cabinet 75 feet away from the event.
All together, 10 ambulances were called to the scene after authorities announced an “EMS Plan 2” in response to what was happening.
